ARNE BANG Dark Blue Greyish Matte Glazed Stoneware Lidded Jar
A rare Arne Bang lidded jar (likely meant for jam) with opening for spoon and metal ring on top of lid, in a nice subtle greyish bluish matte glaze, made in Denmark. The jar is marked with Arne Bangs monogram as well as the model number 94, which should put it in the late part of the 1930s. Arne Bang (1901-1983) was a danish sculptur and ceramist. He was educated at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen under E. Utzon-Frank in 1920-25 and 1928-29. Arne Bang shared a studio with the ceramist Carl Halier, before he was hired by Holmegaard Glassworks in 1929. His stoneware production at Holmegaard and in Fensmark included animal figurines as well as a diverse selection of decorative and practical items for everyday use, in an art deco inspired style.
Condition: The jar is in excellent condition with no defects of any kind. There is some very light wear on both sides of the ring on the lid, from where the ring has been resting, it is otherwise in perfect condition.
Dimensions: The jar is 10cm tall (approx. 4 inches) and the lid has a diameter of 10.5cm (approx. 4 1/5 inches).
