Chinese 19thC French Gilt Bronze Mounted Porcelain FENCAI Celadon Dish (Tongzhi period)
A stunning centerpiece Chinese dish in french gilt bronze mounts. The dish is richly decorated with flowers, roses, insects, butterflies and a pair of birds of paradise in the middle, on a light green celadon background. I believe this kind of decoration is referred to as Fencai. The bronze mounts depict branches with oak leaves and berries on the rim, and roses underneath. The dish is marked in blue on the back, with a mark that was in use in China around 1862-74, making it a Tongzhi period piece.
Condition: The centerpiece is in excellent condition, with some minor wear to the dish, but no other damage. The gilted bronze is still very strong.
Dimensions: The centerpiece is 35cm in diameter (approx. 14 inches) and is 17cm tall (6 4/5 inches). The dish has a diameter of 26cm (10 2/5 inches).
